Vice President Harris Announces Tim Walz as Her Running Mate
Today, Vice President Kamala Harris revealed that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will be her running mate for the 2024 presidential election. The Harris-Walz ticket aims to strengthen democracy, protect reproductive freedom, and offer opportunities for Americans to thrive.
Both Harris and Walz have dedicated their careers to advocating for working families. Harris, through roles as a prosecutor, attorney general, senator, and vice president, has tackled issues like corporate power, reproductive rights, and international aggression. Walz, a retired Army National Guardsman, former teacher, football coach, Congressman, and governor, has championed tax cuts, insulin affordability, and women's rights.
Vice President Harris stated: “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked Governor Tim Walz to be my running mate. One of the things that stood out to me about Tim is how his convictions on fighting for middle class families run deep. It's personal. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his own. We are going to build a great partnership. We start out as underdogs but I believe together, we can win this election.”
Today, Harris and Walz will kick off their campaign with a rally in Philadelphia, beginning a five-day tour to present their vision to voters in key states. Their campaign contrasts with the Trump-Vance agenda, which threatens democracy and the middle class.
Governor Walz has a strong background in supporting working families and veterans. He has worked on lowering insulin costs, eliminating junk fees, and securing paid leave. He also passed significant legislation on abortion rights, police funding, and gun safety.
As a lifelong Midwesterner with a deep commitment to community service, the Harris campaign believes that Walz’s experience makes him a strong partner for Harris in their campaign.
