Blinken Discusses Gaza, Syria, and Strengthening Global Alliances in Upcoming Overseas Trip
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty today, focusing on efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, secure hostages' release, increase humanitarian aid, and end the ongoing conflict. The two also discussed the situation in Syria, with Blinken reaffirming U.S. support for a Syrian-led political transition. He expressed gratitude for Egypt's role in promoting regional peace and highlighted the significance of the U.S.-Egypt strategic partnership.
Additionally, Blinken is set to travel to the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan, and France from January 4 to 9 as part of a high-level diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening U.S. alliances and addressing global challenges. In South Korea, he will meet with senior officials to reaffirm the U.S.-ROK Alliance, deepen collaboration on regional issues, and promote trilateral cooperation with Japan.
His visit to Japan will focus on advancing U.S.-Japan relations, while in France, Blinken will engage with French officials to tackle challenges in Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
This trip underscores the Biden administration's commitment to fostering strong international partnerships and multilateral cooperation.
